Isaiah 6 | Tyler Kirby
Psalm 115:1 NLT “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name goes all the glory…”
1John 4:4 NLT “…the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
“
The nation of Israel at this time, was in the same situation as we are in today: A society that has turned away from God.
Isaiah 5:18-25a NLT “18What sorrow (‘sorrow’ - a warning or threat of God’s physical chastisement) for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies, who drag wickedness behind them like a cart! 19They even mock God and say, ‘Hurry up and do something! We want to see what you can do. Let the Holy One of Israel carry out His plan, for we want to know what it is.’ 20What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light, and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter. 21What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. 22What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold. 23They take bribes to let the wicked go free, and they punish the innocent. 24Therefore, just as fire licks up stubble and dry grass shrivels in the flame, so their roots will rot and their flowers wither. For they have rejected the law of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (‘Almighty’ - to oppose in battle; engage in a war as a soldier; to go to war against); they have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25That is why the Lord’s anger burns against His people…”
Isaiah 6 NIV
“1In the year that King Uzziah died…
2Chronicles 26:4-5 NLT “4He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight…5Uzziah sought God during the days of Zechariah, who taught him to fear God. And as long as the king sought guidance from the LORD, God gave him success.”
While in God’s presence, Isaiah said,
“1…I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne…”
(‘saw’ - to discover; to experience; to encounter; to take pleasure in)
When we spend time in His presence …
1. We see Him
Here’s what Isaiah saw.
“1the train of His robe filled the temple.”
Revelation 19:13 NIV “He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.”
2Above Him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.” 4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook, and the temple was filled with smoke.”
“5Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”
When we spend time in His presence:
2. We see ourselves
Luke 6:45b NIV “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
Being in His presence expose sinfulness.
When God’s presence is in a place and God’s Word is being taught in a place, the sin in us gets uncomfortable.
When we spend time in His presence:
3. We experience freedom
“6Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
(“atone” - to cover over; pacify)
Hebrews 10:1-4, 10 NLT “1The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship. 2If they could have provided perfect cleansing, the sacrifices would have stopped, for the worshipers would have been purified once for all time, and their feelings of guilt would have disappeared. 3But instead, those sacrifices actually reminded them of their sins year after year. 4For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins……10For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.”
“8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’ 9He said, ‘Go and tell this people…’”
When we spend time in His presence:
4. We have a desire to serve
